Our Story
Our Story
Miki School has its roots in a personal and heartfelt story. God’s plan was in motion, even when she couldn’t see it. Monique van Rensburg’s brother couldn’t pronounce her name as a child, affectionately calling her “Miki.”
This endearing nickname later became the name of her school, a place born out of Monique’s deep love for children and her commitment to their education and growth.
Initially established as a Foundation Phase school, Miki School’s story took a transformative turn in 2019 with the arrival of a young boy named Bassie. Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Bassie’s parents sought a supportive and nurturing environment tailored to his needs. His journey with Miki School profoundly influenced Monique and sparked her passion for supporting children with autism.
Inspired by Bassie and a close family member also diagnosed with autism, Monique reimagined Miki School into Miki Autism School. She brought together a dedicated team of educators and therapists, many of whom remain integral to the school today.
With love, care, and an unwavering commitment to inclusivity, Miki Autism School began to flourish. By the end of 2024, it has grown to serve 28 children across four classes, supported by 11 passionate staff members. The school has become a beacon of hope and opportunity for children with autism and their families.
Now 12 years old, Bassie is thriving—his social, emotional, and developmental achievements a testament to the supportive community at Miki Autism School. His success embodies the school’s vision: “The World for You.” By putting children at the heart of everything it does, Miki Autism School continues to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their families.

“We struggled to find the right support for Bassie, as the schools he attended couldn’t meet his needs. Then we met Monique from Miki School, and sending him there was the best decision we ever made.
Bassie immediately felt at ease, and his improvement was remarkable. During this time, he also successfully passed Grade R.
Miki School is truly a wonderful and exceptional place. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone whose child struggles to thrive in a traditional school environment.
Thank you, Monique and the entire Miki School team, for everything you’ve done!”
~ Bassie’s Mother, Carina
